Imagination Our Nation

Kinetika has initiated Imagination Our Nation, a five-year project that will culminate in 2012 with a major event at Victoria Park in East London. The string of events and workshops that together form 'ION' have so far already included two Olympic handover celebrations, a triplet of Cultural Olympiad launch events and the creation of four giant, spectacular moving structures - from a 21st Century East London ‘Pearly Queen’ to a mechanised, story-collecting 'Nottingham Goddess'…

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the original International Olympic Committee, described the Olympics as the perfect synthesis of sport and culture: recently, ‘Imagination Our Nation – GermiNation’ has seen us working with young people and children across the country, exploring their ideas about their own cultural identity, as well their city and where they see themselves within it. The resulting work has been a tremendous mix of carnival, street arts, music, theatre and digital arts, created with five co-producers working alongside local authorities, arts organisations and voluntary groups in places all over the UK. Fascination has now launched in 2009 with the creation of 17 small puppets that will explore the world of many possibilities.
Look out for them at a whole range of events this summer.
