About Kinetika
A not-for-profit organisation, Kinetika was founded in 1997. Its initial inspiration was the Trinidadian model of carnival, with its elaborate costumes and breathtaking music.
Since then, its projects and performances have taken us far and wide – from the Notting Hill Carnival to the Olympics in Atlanta, from the Kolkata Carnival in India to Nelson Mandela's statue unveiling in Parliament Square.
Our vision is to create work that is large-scale and spectacular, which is challenging in its content and tells a compelling story. We aim to make sure performances – devised by a team of professional artists and young people – reach a large and diverse audience. We are committed to building long-term relationships that empower those we work with and create the foundations for a lasting legacy.
The project was initiated and incubated by Kinetika, created from an original idea by Ali Pretty. It is currently being led by a consortium of individuals and delivered by a range of partners across the UK.
