Star Child - Nottingham
The Nottingham Star Child arrived into the City on the 2 May, heralded by drums and music.
City Arts (Nottingham) and Nottingham City Council Puppet Experience
Her first outing was in the Market Square, when City Arts linked into the One Nottingham partnership week finale event. The puppet was introduced by Dave ‘Stickman’ Higgins, met many new friends in the square, and played in the fountains.
She woke up behind a beautiful curtain, and was revealed to the public coming through it, Star Child met lots of people and walked around the Nottingham market square. She saw some of Nottingham’s famous landmarks, including the Left Lion, and paddled in the new fountains.
Over the summer, Star Child visited numerous people and places, encountering over 7000 people. She visited a number of schools, including Southglade Primary School, situated in one of the outer estates in the City. One child, after meeting her said:
‘You know what you see is what you get, because you can look inside her. It would be good if you could look inside people and see their souls.’
Other outings this year included joining the goddess troop in the Nottingham Carnival, where they all came second in the competition!
Her last outing this year was to the beautiful Wollaton Park, where she found her goddess, with all her musicians and dancers. They were looking for each other all day, and finally met up at the top of the hill, in front of Wollaton Hall. It was the beautiful singing of the goddess that finally drew the Star Child to her.
We discovered that everyone, especially children, are completely mesmerised by the Star Child. No matter where she went she received a wonderful welcome.
We are determined to be a champion of community cohesion, do our bit to bring our city together.
