Olly Impics - Somerset

Olly Impics meets a baby

Olly is Somerset’s Olympic Champion. He woke up in the garden at Bridgwater Arts Centre on a sunny morning where he was greeted by resident pigeons, volunteers and friends. He was ready to face his new adventure exploring Somerset.

Olly has learnt many social graces including the hug, the handshake and the high five which will continue to support him in meeting more people in the future. The children that Olly met thought that he should go to school and that he was lucky to be in Somerset as the air is clean, it’s pretty, there is lots to do and you can ride your bike safely. He has recently discovered the wonderful world of social networking and now with his own Face book page so is able to keep in touch with all his friends in Somerset and beyond.

Olly is currently working with Pupils from 2 Bridgwater schools and students at Bridgwater College who are taking their Creative Media Diploma. He will be taking part in their illuminated performance and procession to switch on the Christmas Lights in Bridgwater

Activity this year

Olly’s first official trip was to County Hall to meet Alan Glaok, Chairmen of Somerset County Council where he was presented with a team Somerset badge. During May half term Olly spent two days at East Bridgwater Community School and met children who were making their own puppets and performing a puppet show. He visited various events in Somerset including the Green Scythe Fayre at Muchelney nr Langport, Othery Street Fair and Bridgwater Arts Centre’s Street Party. Olly has also been out and about with the Action Track team meeting children who go to school in Wells and helping them to make a play in a week.

In his wild adventures around Somerset so far Olly has; tried strawberries, worn a pair of sparkly red high heeled shoes, danced while a medieval man who played the dulcimer, learnt to high five, danced to a live samba band, climbed a festival flag pole, discovered pickled onions, tried candyfloss, guessed the weight of the cow, bought a toy kangaroo in a pouch, been given lots of cuddles, danced with people of all ages and spent the day with his twin sister Start Child from Glastonbury. Olly will soon be going to meet the children at Preston School in Yeovil and West Pennard School near Glastonbury as they helped him to find a name.

Olly is going to be the champion of encouraging people that “Creative Lives are Healthy Lives.” He will be encouraging people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds that joining in, making and creating things together makes you feel good, your family and friends feel good and life in general a much more OK place to be.

Olly is excited about making new friends in Somerset, exploring more green spaces in Somerset and taking part in lots of community arts projects in his new community.
