Curious George in Derby Carnival

16th July 2010

The Derby Champion made his second appearane at the carnival on 16 July 2010

Curious George – The Derby Champion made his second outing at the Derby Carnival on Saturday 16 July. As part of his journey around Derby through the Imagination Our Nation (ION) project, he joined young people from the Mandela Arts Centre to dance and entertain the crowds throughout the carnivals journey from Normanton to Market Place. The ION project has been developed by carnival arts company Kinetika, London and is “… a contemporary and collaborative national participatory arts project to develop a legacy of annual events, which uses art to explore the changing world and how communities can positively embrace the future”. George was brought to live as the Derby Champion with support from both the Mandela Arts Project (MAP) and Derby West Indian Centre Association (DWICA). George was operated on the day by Theatre/Arts Youth Worker John Whall, Silver Linings Youth Theatre members Peter Bid and Luke Earle and Sali Gresham from local theatre company Define Theatre. George can also be found on Facebook by searching ‘Curious George Derby’, where he would love to meet you all.
